Exercise. That dreaded word most dieters either totally ignore or only put in a half hearted effort so they can profess to friends and family, “of course I’m exercising”. Raising your hand to your mouth does not constitute exercise. Deep down we all know that dieting alone will not produce the long term weight loss you crave. So, let’s look at incorporating how to lose weight with exercise into our overall diet program.

Many of us get caught up in what we think exercise should be…sweating it out in the gym, doing 100 crunches to get rid of that belly fat, running a 10 k race. Wrong. In order to keep up with any exercise program, it needs to be fun. It needs to be something that you enjoy doing. It doesn’t need to be a rigid routine to be carried out 3 to 5 times a week. Unless, of course, you are into that sort of thing.

When you’re hurrying cleaning the house for your weekend guests, you’re exercising. When you’re getting your gardens ready for winter, you’re exercising. When you take the dog for a brisk walk, you’re exercising. Here’s one I use. When grocery shopping, leave your cart at the end of the aisle and walk to the item you want. Any activity that requires you to move will increase the amount of calories you burn and consequently the amount of weight you lose.

Even for those of you who can’t tear yourself away from the boob tube, there is still hope. During the commercial breaks do some squats or lunges
and just so you don’t get bored, change up the exercises to sit ups or push ups. This way you won’t be tempted to run to the fridge for that ice cream bar or bottle of beer.

Because there is not one size fits all exercise program, you’re going to have to experiment, Just do whatever it takes to get off that couch and start moving.

How to lose weight with exercise doesn’t need to be an onerous task. Experts recommend that we walk a minimum of 10,000 steps a day. Buy a pedometer and start tracking your daily steps for a week. See which days you meet or exceed the 10,000 steps and then work on those days when you fall short. Walking up the stairs to your office instead of taking the elevator will add a few while parking your car at the far end of the mall parking lot will add even more steps.

Exercise releases the hormone endorphin or the “feel good” hormone. You’ll find with regular exercise you’ll start craving that feeling and craving endorphins is a whole lot better than craving cheesecake.
